Bulky Waste

Schedule Pickup

Schedule bulky waste pickup by calling the Public Works Department at 860-446-4127. You will be scheduled into the next available time-slot, no sooner than one week out.

Bulky Waste is picked up on WEDNESDAYS throughout the year. All items must be out curbside by 7 am (6 am Memorial Day through Labor Day - Summer Schedule).

Payment

  • Accepted forms of payment: Cash, check, credit and debit cards (credit and debit payment available via phone).
  • Convenience fee: 2.5% for credit & debit card payments $60.00 and over; $1.50 under $60.00
  • Payments are non-refundable and must be paid at minimum one week before pickup.
  • Payments may be made via phone (credit/debit cards) or by dropping off check or cash in-person at the Public Works Department or by using the drop box located in front of the City of Groton Municipal Building on the right-side.
  • Checks should be made out to "City of Groton Highway Department"
  • If using the drop box option, enclose payment in an envelope labeled "Highway Department"

Details

  • Items must be separated into piles of the following - wood, brush, metal, furniture, and miscellaneous.
  • Items must be away from trees, telephone poles, wires, or other obstacles
  • Piles must be neatly stacked - all items separated
  • Appliance Doors must be removed
  • Hazardous Material will not be picked up but can be disposed of at the annual Household Hazardous Waste Day in the Spring
  • No brush or lumber over 5 feet in any length
  • Regular Household garbage and recyclable items will not be picked up
  • Be aware bulky waste is picked up by hand

We Do Not Accept the Following Items

The following items cannot be taken with trash or bulky waste; you will need to dispose of these items yourself:

  • Bags of Concrete if hardened up, you need to take this to the dump
  • Boats - No Boats (Fiberglass, wood, or other)
  • Carpeting
  • Ceramic Tile
  • Computers
  • Construction and Demolition Material
  • Creosote Lumber
  • Decks that are being taken down or replaced
  • Electronics
  • Fiberglass Insulation
  • Floor Tiles
  • Florescent Light Bulbs - Unbroken bulbs are accepted at the Flanders Road Transfer Station or take to Hazardous Waste Collection Day. Home Depots and Lowe's Stores in CT take them, and some IKEA Stores take them.
  • Glass Shower Doors
  • Grass Clippings
  • Hedges unless cut very low
  • Landscape Timbers
  • Mercury Vapor Lamp Fixtures (Hazardous Waste)
