A strong arctic high-pressure system is forecast to move across New England today and on Saturday. This high-pressure system will bring bitterly cold temperatures and strong wind gusts to New England starting at daybreak on Friday and lasting until Sunday morning. The coldest and windiest period is expected.
Please dress warm and limit your exposure to the outside temperatures as hypothermia and frostbite can occur very quickly. Please remember your pets too, as they are very vulnerable to the cold if left outside too long.
If you need a break from the cold you can utilize the Groton Public Library Friday from 9 AM–5:30 PM; Saturday from 9 AM–5 PM and Sunday 1–5 PM, The Senior Center Thrive 55+ Active Living Center on Friday until 7 pm, Police Department lobby 24 hours a day (both City and Town of Groton Police) or Groton Youth and Family Services until 4:30pm on Friday. If you need immediate help or you need help after hours we encourage you to call 2-1-1 or contact the Town of Groton Police Department at 860-441-6712 for Groton Town residents or City of City of Groton Police Department at 860-445-2451 for City of Groton residents for assistance.
