About Parks and Recreation

The staff of Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for maintaining 13 parks within the city limits, including Washington Park, a 32 acre park consisting of 6 ballfields, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball court, outdoor exercise equipment and 6 pavilions that are available to rent.  Eastern Point Beach, consisting of a concession stand, lifeguard & first aid station, playground, volleyball area, restrooms, outdoor shower and year round rental property, is also maintained by our department and is considered the gem of the City!

“This beach has my heart. I have lived in Groton City my whole life. I have so many memories with friends and family over the years. When I was little, I taught myself how to swim there, I used to swim out to the raft with my friends and after school we would go for a swim and dinner. It’s my place to go to get away from this crazy world we live in and relax. Even off season, it’s a great place to just walk around, listen to the waves and watch the boats go by. Now I’m 37 years old and married. We were able to buy our first home only a mile away. Me and my husband walk there daily and ride our bikes. I just feel so blessed every time I get to go there.” Lisa Trehy.
