Storm update – September 6, 2017

At about 10:00 a.m. the City of Groton experienced an unusual weather event with dangerous lightening and winds which uprooted trees and heavy rain. We had significant infrastructure damage. We ask for the public’s help as we conduct our clean up operation.

Please stay off the roads and check on neighbors to ensure they are okay, especially our elderly and ill. Treat all wires you see down as live and do not touch them. Safety first. Be assured Groton Utilities, and the City of Groton Police and Fire Departments are assisting our Highway Department in clean up.

More storms are expected today with unknown severity. Please stay in and stay safe.

More information will be forthcoming on cancellations and road closures. We thank you for your patience as we clean up and rapidly return things to normal. We have experienced no reported injuries in the City of Groton and our thoughts and prayers are with our sister community in New London who appears to have had a storm related fatality according to media reports.
