City Day

In 1984 the City Council adopted a resolution establishing “City Day”. City Day initially was associated with the town wide celebration of Groton Week. In 1987 it became a stand alone celebration on the first Friday in August.

It is an opportunity to showcase the various departments within the City of Groton and Groton Utilities to our residents. Each department has displays, games and giveaways. There are numerous activities for the children including a rock climbing wall, laser tag and a photo booth. Elected officials, department heads and volunteers from the community cook and serve up the hot dogs, burgers and cold beverages. A DJ is there all evening to keep the celebration in high gear. The winner of the Jacqueline Nixon Community Service Award is announced and there will be a demonstration by a local martial arts group.
